<\/a>were unveiled on May 21, during a meeting with employees. Renderings from the architecture firm RTKL, one of the largest architectural firms in the world, have shown a five-story office-and-retail building clad in multi-colored bricks, glass and metal panels. Totaling 650,000 square feet, the building will be an open square with a 30,000-square-foot courtyard for the use of American Greeting employees. A glass-enclosed skyway will connect the building to a five-story parking structure.<\/p>\nAmerican Greetings\u2019 new headquarters will take up 595,000 square feet of the 650,000-square-foot building. The rest will be occupied by retail. The new building will be constructed at the south end of Crocker Park and accessible from Detroit and Crocker roads. To the north, developer Stark Enterprises has plans for new stores, restaurants and residential developments.<\/p>\n
The greeting card company will become Westlake\u2019s biggest employer, with 1,600 employees. It currently employs 1,750 full-time and part-time workers at its Brooklyn headquarters. No jobs will be cut, as 150 employees in the company’s call center and back-office roles won’t move to Westlake. As no decision has yet been made about the future of the Brooklyn facility, it is not yet known whether those jobs will be kept at the current complex or moved elsewhere.<\/p>\n
Plans have not yet been submitted to the city of Westlake’s planning department. American Greetings hopes to start work in early 2013 and finish in mid-2014.<\/p>\n
