Once famously associated with the swinging Las Vegas of the Rat Pack era and the original “Ocean’s 11″ movie, the Sahara Hotel & Casino closed in 2011 after falling on hard times. \"\"<\/a>But the 60-year-old property is getting a new lease on life\u00a0thanks to a\u00a0$300 million makeover planned by the property\u2019s owner, Los Angeles-based SBE Entertainment Group L.L.C.,\u00a0and its financial partner, Stockbridge Capital L.L.C. JP Morgan Securities L.L.C. arranged the financing for the renovation\u00a0in less than two weeks.<\/p>\n

The owners will\u00a0renovate and re-brand the aging hotel as\u00a0SLS Las Vegas Resort, a property that the owners promise will be marked by stylish guest rooms\u00a0and trendy, high-end dining.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe see the northern end of the Strip as the future of Las Vegas, and we\u2019re pleased to be positioned at the forefront of that growth,” said Sam Nazarian, SBE’s\u00a0chairman & CEO. In 2007\u00a0SBE and Stockbridge Capital acquired the hotel for an price estimated at between $300 million and\u00a0$400 million.\u00a0\u00a0The renovated Sahara would be the third property to carry the SLS\u00a0brand name.\u00a0 A Miami property, SLS Hotel South Beach, is scheduled to open\u00a0this month.<\/p>\n

French designer Phillippe Starck, who\u00a0created guest rooms for the SLS properties in Miami and Beverly Hills, Calif., is providing\u00a0designs for the property\u2019s 1,600 guest rooms.\u00a0\u00a0Nazarian will collaborate with chef\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Andr\u00e9s on\u00a0developing the property’s restaurants.\u00a0Also on board for the project are Gensler Architects and PENTA Building Group.<\/p>\n
