Hyatt Hotels Corp. and management company Kokua Hospitality, LLC announced the opening of the second tower at Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach.<\/p>\n

The Diamond Head Tower joins the Pali Tower, the first tower,\u00a0which opened in December 2011 as the first Hyatt Place hotel in the Hawaii market.<\/p>\n

Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach is now the largest Hyatt Place hotel in the country, containing a total of 426 guest rooms \u2013 191 in the Pali Tower and 235 in the Diamond Head Tower. The property is owned by Chartres Lodging.<\/p>\n

Launched in 2006 as a brand of Hyatt Hotels Corp., Hyatt Place offers more than 160 locations throughout the United States. The hotels feature practical amenities such as complimentary Wi-Fi access and remote printing, 24-hour fitness centers, coffee and wine bars and 24\/7 Guest Kitchens.<\/p>\n

In other news, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) began construction on the first section of the city\u2019s $5.17 billion elevated rail transit project. Contractor Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. was given the green light to start drilling the shafts for the concrete support pillars in East Kapolei, near the Farrington Highway.<\/p>\n

“We want to thank the Federal Transit Administration and state agencies that have worked closely with us on all of the necessary approvals. This is indeed a great day for Oahu”, said Dan Grabauskas, HART’s executive director and CEO.
