Dec. 29 will mark an important day in the revitalization process, as the newly enhanced Joy Theater will open its doors once again on Canal Street in downtown New Orleans.<\/p>\n<p>The facility went through an extensive <a href=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2011\/12\/Joy-Theater1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-29150\" src=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2011\/12\/Joy-Theater1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>restoration process, as part of an intended adaptive reuse project, with renovation costs climbing to $5 million. The historic landmark has been transformed into a multipurpose theater suitable for all sorts of entertainment, including films, concerts, fashion shows, private functions and corporate events, the <em>Times-Picayune <\/em>reported.<\/p>\n<p>Enhancements include installation of a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, a built-in stage, on-site dressing rooms and a flexible seating plan on the first floor. The venue will hold as many as 900 people, according to official Web site information.<\/p>\n<p>In other commercial real estate news,\u00a0<em>New Orleans City Business<\/em> reports important progress on the development of the Lincoln Elementary School for the Arts, a 72,000-square-foot facility on Ames Boulevard in Marrero: selection of Construction Masters Inc., a Metairie-based contractor, to work on the job. That will allow construction to begin on the $15.5 million project.<\/p>\n<p>The development, which is slated to be complete by Feb. 20, 2013, will include 26 classrooms, a cafeteria and a media center.
