The facility that provided care and basic medical services for homeless animals was not only flooded by storm waters but sustained wind damage, as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the level of damages at their original facility, the Louisiana SPCA asked us if they could utilize FEMA funding to build their post-Katrina facility at a new location\u2014one that makes them less vulnerable to future flooding. Our recent grant approves this request, supporting not only their recovery efforts but preparedness efforts, as well,\u201d said FEMA\u2019s Louisiana Recovery Office Deputy Director of Programs Andre Cadogan in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>The request for a new location has been approved, thus the new facility is to be erected at 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd., where the proximity to the riverbank ensures higher ground. The new SPCA complex will offer the same services and have the same functions as the pre-storm facility; however its space configuration and capacity will improve.<\/p>\n<p>The project falls into FEMA\u2019s Public Assistance Program category.
