The South Side of San Antonio saw the groundbreaking of a $27 million housing project at Brooks City-Base last week.<\/p>\n

The former military installation, now public land, scores another milestone in its economic development with the creation of The Landings, a 300-loft residential project. The Landings, which targets business and health professionals working in the area, will be the first high-end facility\u00a0built on the South Side of the city. The developer is NRP Group.<\/p>\n

This is the developer’s second residential project at Brooks. It currently manages the Heritage Oaks, a project containing 163 renovated homes and duplexes for rent.<\/p>\n

The city’s South Side is growing rapidly, with new housing, a new hospital and the newest road project in the city, Don Jakeway, president of Brooks Development Authority, told the San Antonio Express-News<\/em>. The $47 million, four-lane boulevard runs through the Brooks Air Force Base.<\/p>\n

The new hospital, located down the road from the future Landing residential project, opened last month. Valued at $100 million, it includes 110 beds.<\/p>\n

Also under construction is the CityBase West shopping center, being built on a 47-acre site. The developer is Mark Granados, who received $4 million in incentives from the Bexar County Commission to build the retail site.<\/p>\n

Some of the most important investments in the South Side redevelopment over the past 10 years are projects for Toyota and\u00a0Texas A&M-San Antonio, as well as the creation of Port San Antonio and Brooks City-Base.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
