Carnegie Mellon University\u2019s new master plan for its campus has been approved by City Planning officials. The plan includes the development of five key projects over the next 10 years, at an estimated cost of $500 million.<\/p>\n

The Pittsburgh Business Times<\/em> reports that the first development proposes a $70 million biomedical-energy-nanotechnology center, which will be located toward the southwest corner of the campus. Bob Reppe, director of design at Carnegie Mellon, told the newspaper that Jendoco Construction would manage the 100,000-square-foot construction project.<\/p>\n

Other priority developments include a new Tepper School of Business facility, an extension of the Forbes Avenue side of the University Center, improvements for Skibo Gym and an extension of Margaret Morrison Carnegie Hall. The campus lawn at Morewood and Forbes will also be transformed for the creation of a more formal entrance for the university. Construction is slated to begin as soon as the fundraising process is complete.<\/p>\n

In regional news, Cranberry Township officials recently approved plans for the 18-acre Century Business Park at the corner of Route 19 and Ehrman Road. The first phase of the development includes a Sheetz gas station and convenience store, while three office\/warehouse-type buildings are planned for later phases of the project. According to the Cranberry Patch<\/em>, Sheetz will help fund a traffic signal at the intersection of Ehrman Road and Route 19.<\/p>\n

City officials have also approved a 5,569-square-foot GetGo gas station and car wash for the Cranberry Crossroads shopping center on Route 228. Upon completion, the complex will include 98,940 square feet of retail space with a two-story Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods as its anchor tenant, as well as 90,000 square feet of business and professional office space. ECHO Realty is in charge of the development of the retail space, while Pittsburgh’s Elmhurst Group is responsible for the office space.<\/p>\n
