The\u00a0$13.4 million project is developed on the former LTV steel industrial site.<\/p>\n<p>The urban park was funded with approximately $10.6 million in federal, state and local money and more than $2.7 million in private donations from the Richard King Mellon Foundation, Heinz Endowments, Soffer Organization and Columbia Gas.<\/p>\n<p>Amenities include a 1,000-seat amphitheater with a capacity for up to 2,000 people, hiking and biking trail access and a water fountain for dogs. The <em>Pittsburgh Business Times<\/em> reports that the final phase of the project is expected to be completed next spring.\u00a0It\u00a0will involve\u00a0clean up of\u00a0the portion of the park closest to the river, extending the trail to the water\u2019s edge and adding a landing for a water taxi. Upon completion, the park will include a 300-slip marina and a permanent boat dock facility\u00a0that can\u00a0accommodate up to 17 recreational vessels.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors of the riverfront park that spans between the 25th and 29th streets will also have access to the SouthSide Works retail complex, a $400 million development completed by the Soffer Organization. The city\u2019s Urban Redevelopment Authority along with the Soffer Organization and nonprofit group Riverlife will utilize a $1 million fund to maintain the park.<\/p>\n<p>In other news, the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System held a formal dedication ceremony for the completion of\u00a0the new $75.8 million Consolidation Building at its University Drive campus in Oakland. The 194,850-square-feet five-story building includes outpatient rooms, a chapel, training rooms, 78 private beds for psychiatric patients and three rooftop plazas.
