Making the latest additions to its prolific Seattle development portfolio,\u00a0Vulcan Real Estate\u00a0recently kicked off construction of two major residential projects and the conversion of an historic building.<\/p>\n

Last month Vulcan broke ground on Stack House (pictured below), a 278-unit residential complex that will occupy an entire block in the Cascade neighborhood. \u00a0Named after the smokestack that pops out of the Supply Laundry Building, the residential component of the development will incorporate two seven-story buildings and a 305-stall parking garage. Units will range from lofts, townhomes and studios to one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Vulcan intends to seek LEED Platinum certification for the Stack House development. Vulcan is also planning to convert the Supply Laundry Building itself to commercial use and is seeking LEED Gold certification for that project.<\/p>\n

In South Lake Union, a long-time Vulcan stronghold, the company kicked off construction of the Martin, a 24-story luxury apartment tower in the Denny Triangle area. Scheduled for a fall 2013 completion, the 188-unit tower will target upscale professionals.<\/p>\n

Vulcan will pursue LEED Silver certification for the property, which will incorporate high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment and water fixtures, sustainable materials and extensive use of natural light. Designed by Callison, the Seattle-based architectural firm, the Martin will feature four floors of above-ground parking, fitness facilities, a community room, a roof deck, meeting facilities and a media room. \u00a0Upper floors will offer views of the Seattle skyline, Lake Union and Puget Sound. Located at 5th<\/sup> Avenue and Lenora Street, the property will be accessible to public transportation and will be near the Amazon.com office complex.<\/p>\n
