In 2010, the San Antonio Express-News<\/em> announced that the city of San Antonio and Brooks Development Authority (BDA) had broken ground on the city’s new fire and police emergency dispatch center at Brooks City-Base.<\/p>\n

A year and a half later, the San Antonio Business Journal<\/em>\u00a0has announced the new development’s opening.<\/p>\n

The facility was intended to replace the former 911 center located at police headquarters on West Nueva Street in Downtown San Antonio. Located on six acres of land, the 40,000-square-foot, single-story building will serve as the 911 dispatch center for the San Antonio fire and police departments. The center will house circa 120 employees.<\/p>\n

The city named Sundt Construction Inc. and Guido Brothers Construction Co. as the construction managers for the new center. Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, along with local associate firm Alvidrez Architecture Inc., served as the design consultant.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the latest water attraction in San Antonio, Aquatica, is planned to open in May. The San Antonio Express-News<\/em> reports that the water park features several new rides, including Walhalla Wave, which has a 720-degree loop into a 50-degree and then up a three-story zero gravity wall. The park also features 42,000 square feet of beach area.<\/p>\n

This is the second Aquatica in the country, the first one having been built in Orlando four years ago. While SeaWorld did not report the park’s cost, John Gerner, managing director of Leisure Business Advisors, said sources have estimated the price tag at $24 million, as quoted by the San Antonio publication.<\/p>\n

Aquatica will employ 400 people.<\/p>\n
