The $180 million Stadium Place development\u00a0got a a major boost when the\u00a0Pioneer Square Preservation Board unanimously approved the controversial design for the project’s second apartment tower.<\/p>\n
Designed by ZGF architects, the\u00a0333-unit\u00a0South Tower will reach an elevation of 240 feet, only\u00a030 feet lower than\u00a0CenturyLink Field, which is less than\u00a0500 feet away from Stadium Place. The building\u2019s stacked massing has drawn comparisons\u00a0 to 1970s science-fiction movies design and to Stonehenge.<\/p>\n
City officials and local residents spoke in favor of the tower’s design, and the preservation board explained that the project would knit CenturyLink Field with the rest of the Pioneer Square neighborhood. Project supporters say that Stadium Place will help revitalize an area that has been left behind while development has thrived elsewhere in Seattle.<\/p>\n
Developed by a\u00a0joint venture of Daniels Real Estate and R.D. Merrill,\u00a0\u00a0Stadium Place will consist of three residential towers when fully built out. The structures will rest on\u00a0\u00a0a\u00a0four-story podium\u00a0that will include\u00a074 residential units, 16,000 square feet of retail space and 369 parking stalls.<\/p>\n
