<\/a>As work on the Maryland Live! Casino is nearing completion, the developers gathered on Wednesday, February 15, in Arundel Mills, to celebrate, honor the workers and \u201dtop off\u201d one of the state\u2019s largest construction projects. A \u201dtopping off\u201d ceremony is a long-standing tradition of construction workers, commemorating the completion of a building’s structure.<\/p>\nOfficials including Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, County Executive John Leopold and Maryland State Lottery Agency Director Stephen Martino joined Cordish Company executives David Cordish and Joe Weinberg, Maryland Live! Casino President, and GM Robert J. Norton, and CI\/TN Ward Joint Venture principals Kevin Johnson and David Panichi in signing the final steel beam. Afterwards a crane hoisted it into place.<\/p>\n
The $500 million casino is located in the Arundel Mills Commercial District in Hanover, Maryland. Approximately 2,500 employees have worked on the project, most of them coming from the immediate Baltimore\/Washington area. The casino and entertainment complex will occupy 12 acres and feature 4,750 of the latest and greatest Las Vegas-style slot machines and electronic table games, nationally acclaimed restaurants, designer shopping, eight full-service bars and a live entertainment venue. Three thousand slot machines have already been installed with the remaining 1,750 to be finished by the fall.<\/p>\n
The Baltimore-based Cordish Company, one of the largest and most successful developers of entertainment districts and concepts in the United States, is the project developer. With the casino and its five-story parking structure completed, workers are now constructing the building’s interior. An employment center was recently opened near the site as the project owners are recruiting to fill an additional 1,500 new jobs.<\/p>\n
The Maryland Live! Casino will bring many new jobs and help improve the region\u2019s economy as well as its infrastructure, creating new parking, highway access, better and safer streets, senior care and much more. The casino has a contribution of more than $400 million in tax revenue per year to support local schools. As it is scheduled to open this June, project developers are urging the public to save their money and spend it at the state-of-the-art entertainment center.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
