Three years after it was first slated for construction, Home Depot has broken ground on a 1.2 million-square-foot distribution center in South Dallas, expanding on an existing 531,000-square-foot facility.<\/p>\n

The $20 million distribution facility, which is expected to be completed in 2012, will be developed by Trammell Crow Co., according to the\u00a0Dallas Business Journal. <\/em>The expansion is expected to bring 250 distribution jobs to South Dallas.<\/p>\n

Home Depot\u2019s presence in Dallas, since 2007 when the company leased the space from the facility developer, is important for the city, and Home Depot will receive a large series of incentives from local institutions, including the city, which granted approximately $4 million in property tax abatements for 10 years. Additionally, incentives worth $2 million were offered by Dallas County and the DeSoto Economic Development Corp. A Trammell Crow affiliate also received $2.5 million in incentives to improve the site infrastructure and the road.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, things are still unclear regarding the Hall Arts Center, a 500,000-square-foot office tower worth $160 million in the Arts District. The Dallas City Council is expected to vote on the developer\u2019s request to create a subdistrict within the Arts District. This is the only way building signage would be allowed, considered crucial for attracting major tenants to the 17-story office tower.<\/p>\n

If the city council votes in favor of Hall\u2019s request, the project could begin at the beginning of the next year. Developer Craig Hall considers that Dallas is competing on a world stage and needs more office developments like this one, according to the\u00a0Dallas Business Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n
