DMC and parent company Vanguard Health Systems Inc. want to invest $50 million in a 3-story, 100,000-square-foot medical center that would provide pediatric, adult and emergency care.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The project was filed last week with the Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority and, if it gets the green light, DMC could purchase the land and construction could begin in the third quarter of 2012.\u00a0 The new medical facility could create over 150 full-time jobs at the center alone and add about $1 million a year to property tax rolls. According to <em>The Detroit News<\/em>, more than 60 percent of the new medical center would provide pediatric care services, while the remaining space would serve as an adult outpatient service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Quoted by the newspaper, Lori Mouton, VP of Marketing for DMC Children\u2019s Hospital, said that Oakland County was DMC\u2019s first choice location primarily because of its location near Interstate 696. The large number of Oakland County residents\u2014almost 200,000 \u2014treated at a DMC facility in 2011 also counted for choosing this location, added Lori Mouton.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The site has been vacant since the late 1970s, when it was cleared to make way for Interstate 696.
