“Plan for Growth in Southern Dallas,” a program newly revealed by Mayor Mike Rawlings, could lead to projects worth $1 billion for the 169 square miles of South Dallas.<\/p>\n

As it represents a large part of Dallas, the mayor agreed that \u201cif we want to grow the city, we must grow this part of Dallas,\u201d according to the\u00a0Dallas Business Journal. <\/em>The publication reported that the neighborhoods to be included in the $1 billion project are West Dallas, Oak Cliff, Mountain Creek, Red Bird, South Dallas\/Fair Park, Pleasant Grove, Buckner Terrace and Kleberg.<\/p>\n

The planned investments, presented in the city council\u2019s briefing and published on the Dallas City Hall Web site, are as follows:<\/p>\n

Pinnacle Park Expansion: <\/strong>Commence construction of new frontage road along south side of I-30 between Cockrell Hill Road and Westmoreland Road; begin construction of 130-unit Hillside West apartment complex on W. Davis St. west of Cockrell Hill Road.<\/p>\n

Greater Downtown \/ Cedars:\u00a0 <\/strong>Renew the South Side Public Improvement District; support funding requests for new residential and hotel projects in the Cedars and TOD TIF districts; complete construction of NYLO Hotel; complete construction of S. Lamar Street streetscape improvements; pursue \u201cCedars Haven\u201d single-family concept.<\/p>\n

North Oak Cliff:<\/strong> Initiate zoning changes consistent with the Oak Cliff Gateway Land Use Plan; complete a strategic plan for the Bishop Arts District area; begin construction of The Collective mixed-use development at Colorado Boulevard and Fort Worth Avenue; continue North Oak Cliff Neighborhood Investment; complete Zang Triangle mixed-use project on Zang Boulevard north of Colorado Boulevard.<\/p>\n

Red Bird<\/strong>: Complete Dallas Executive Airport Master Plan update; finalize approvals for new Walmart Supercenter at I-35E and Ledbetter Road.<\/p>\n

West Dallas Gateway:<\/strong> Complete the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge; begin construction of Sylvan Avenue Bridge replacement; complete design and begin construction of Continental Pedestrian Bridge and western gateway.<\/p>\n

The projects presented in the city council’s briefing<\/a> are divided in terms of the achievement period: projects that will be finished in 12 months and projects that will take two years to complete.<\/p>\n
