{"id":1004050679,"date":"2012-08-17T13:08:50","date_gmt":"2012-08-17T21:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/?p=63553"},"modified":"2022-11-30T21:12:27","modified_gmt":"2022-12-01T05:12:27","slug":"innovative-36-million-renewal-project-breaks-ground","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.commercialsearch.com\/news\/innovative-36-million-renewal-project-breaks-ground\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovative $36 Million Renewal Project Breaks Ground"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Gabriel Circiog, Associate Editor<\/p>\n<p>Launching an\u00a0innovative urban revitalization initiative, a coalition of public and private stakeholders has broken ground on <a href=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2012\/08\/Kendall-Whittier-West-Park-Project.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-63555\" src=\"https:\/\/synd.yardi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2012\/08\/Kendall-Whittier-West-Park-Project.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"159\" \/><\/a>Kendall-Whittier West Park project, a $36 million mixed-income residential development in Tulsa.<\/p>\n<p>Joining forces for the event were representatives of the George Kaiser Family Foundation,\u00a0the\u00a0University of Tulsa, the city of Tulsa and developer McCormack Baron Salazar (pictured at right).<\/p>\n<p>Spread over 7.5 acres between South Lewis and Atlanta Avenues near 4th Street, the urban development aims to revitalize Tulsa\u2019s historic Kendall-Whittier neighborhood. The project will feature one of the city\u2019s first mixed-income housing developments: about 128 mixed-income residential units and 20 units for University of Tulsa graduate students. Construction of the residential component\u00a0is scheduled for completion in fall 2013. The Kendall-Whittier West Park project will also include 7,000 square feet of retail and management space, as well as renovations to the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood park.<\/p>\n<p>University of Tulsa president Geoffrey Orsak affirmed his institution\u2019s commitment to revitalizing the neighborhood, commenting, \u201cTogether as neighbors, we are stepping up to create better housing opportunities and an even stronger community. This is one of the truly remarkable urban development programs that I\u2019ve seen anywhere in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Kaiser Foundation chose the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood as the pilot site for\u00a0the\u00a0revitalization initiative and is partnering with McCormack Baron Salazar, a national developer specializing in transforming\u00a0 hard-hit urban areas into dynamic mixed-income communities.<\/p>\n<p>With Community Action Project of Tulsa County serving as the lead planning agency, the Kaiser Foundation is also participating in the U.S. Department of Education\u2019s Promise Neighborhood Program and aims to emulate the success of the Harlem Children\u2019s Zone, the acclaimed educational initiative in Manhattan.
