The mixed-use project near the Barton Creek Square Mall was approved last week by the Austin City Council with a unanimous vote. The project calls for 140 condominiums in two buildings, 86 townhomes, 75,819 square feet of office space, 8,300 square feet of retail space and 3,500 square feet of office space.<\/p>\n
The project will be built in phases over 10 years, on a 16-acre site along Loop 360. The tentatively called Tarlton 360 project is being planned by Cypress Real Estate Advisors, a private real estate investment fund based in Austin. John Burnham, vice president of investments for Cypress, told The Statesman<\/em> that the project will be designed by Dick Clark Architecture of Austin.<\/p>\n Although the developers plan to work on improving utilities and water quality, which is said to bring great advantages for the area, the head of a neighborhood group, Lynne Harrison-David, is against the mixed-use project, according to The Statesman<\/em> publication. Harrison-David fears that the project is too big for the area and that it would increase traffic in the area.<\/p>\n On the other hand, officials claim the development will bring a great series of advantages for the area, as Cypress plans to invest a substantial sum in activities such as traffic improvements, acquiring park land in the area and enhancing the water quality.<\/p>\n The project was the first development approved by using a revised city ordinance about redeveloping properties over the water source that feeds Barton.
