White Lodging disclosed plans to break ground on the $300 million JW Marriott Austin this summer. The developer recently revealed the design of the downtown hotel, which will be 33 stories high and will measure 1.2 million square feet.<\/p>\n

Designed for LEED silver certification, the hotel is projected to top 1,000 customers per day. Apart from the LEED certification, the project will boast a two-star Austin Energy Green Building rating, according to Citybizlist.com<\/em>. In addition to the 1,012 rooms, the hotel will also feature 115,000 square feet of meeting, banquet and exhibition space, food and beverage venues, underground parking and a 4,500-square-foot fitness center.<\/p>\n

White Lodging is planning to start construction on a three-story underground parking garage with 458 spaces on August 1, which will take nine to 10 months to build. This phase will be followed by the construction of the hotel, according to The Statesman<\/em>. The publication adds that this is one of the largest developments in downtown Austin\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

As for the benefits that the hotel will bring to the community, The Statesman<\/em> reports that the JW Marriott will generate 2,500 construction jobs during its two-year construction and create 750 permanent jobs with an average wage of $38,000 a year once it opens in early 2015. Additionally, the hotel will generate more than $16 million in taxes each year, with $5 million to $6 million of that going to the city.<\/p>\n

In other important news, Epoch Properties Inc. will break ground in June on a luxury apartment project in northwest Austin. The Austin Business Journal<\/em> reports that the developer will build an upscale 276-unit complex targeting young professionals and empty-nesters. Construction is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2013.<\/p>\n
