The City of Leander is welcoming two major housing projects, with the transformation of around 300 acres of land into a 188-home development, as well as a mixed-income and senior-housing project. The first housing project will be built on 251 acres of land, recently purchased by an Austin firm that will develop the so-called Reagan’s Overlook.<\/p>\n

According to the Austin-American Statesman<\/em>, Harris, Nicol & Straub Development Partners LLC bought 91 acres from Ralph Reed, John Avery Jr. and Larry Vineyard. Rebecca Hudson joined the firm as a partner in the project by providing 160 acres. The development will sit on the east side of Ronald W. Reagan Boulevard and will include, apart from the homes, about 50 acres of land allocated for a park.<\/p>\n

The Austin publication adds that Brohn Homes, Drees Custom Homes and Highland Homes have been contracted to buy the lots and build the homes, which will range in price from $300,000 to $500,000.<\/p>\n

The second Leander project, which includes \"\"<\/a>a senior-living apartment complex, is to be developed by Merritt Communities\u2014the same company responsible for Leander Station Senior Village. Dubbed Connelly’s Crossing, the project would also include park space and single-family homes.<\/p>\n

Plans for Connelly’s Crossing include two apartment complexes\u2014one for senior residents and one for residents whose incomes are at or below 60 percent of the area’s median income. Developers also want to build 118 single-family homes and three parks\u2014one planned to be a veterans memorial.<\/p>\n

City Manager Kent Cagle said there is a need in Leander for this type of housing, as quoted by the Statesman.<\/em> Construction is expected to begin in September, according to the Community Impact Newspaper<\/em>.<\/p>\n
