Colliers International continued its expansion with a new Southeast office in Birmingham, Ala.<\/p>\n
The 15th office added in two years, Colliers Birmingham, formerly Sandner Commercial Real Estate, represents\u00a0\u201ca significant growth opportunity for Colliers not only in Alabama but also in the Southeast region,\u201d said Dan Spiegel, executive vice president of operations for Colliers International in the U.S. \u201cThis addition will surely strengthen our footprint in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sandner was founded in 2007 by Joe Sandner III, who served as CEO and will continue to do so under the Colliers name, and his son, Joe Sandner IV, president of the family firm, who will also retain that title with Colliers Birmingham. The firm has 15 real estate brokerage experts and property management professionals, including Keith Newton, who joined as a partner in 2007, and Andy Sink, who came on as a partner in 2011.<\/p>\n
The firm, one of the largest in Birmingham, offers services in tenant representation, project leasing, property management, brokerage\/investment sales and acquisitions, and investment advisory. In 2011, Sandner\u2019s brokers completed 91 transactions totaling more than $109 million. The property management division serves more than 148 tenants and oversees a portfolio of about 1.6 million square feet of office, retail and industrial facilities throughout the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn order for us to better serve our clients, we needed a broader platform in terms of specialty areas and expertise, and that\u2019s exactly what Colliers offers,\u201d said Joe Sandner III.<\/p>\n
Joe Sandner IV said the firm is looking to tap into Colliers expertise in retail markets.\u00a0\u201cBecause our history is focused in the office and industrial markets, we\u2019re especially excited about the opportunity to expand our firm\u2019s retail sector,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Colliers International is the third-largest commercial real estate company in the world, with more than 12,300 professionals operating out of over 522 offices in 62 countries. In recent years, Colliers has grown by adding local commercial real estate firms to its organizations in new regions.\u00a0The last office added to its fold was Inland Cos., of Milwaukee, Wis., which came on board in May, adding its 50 employees to the larger company. Last year, Inland\u2019s brokers completed approximately 300 transactions totaling more than $160 million. The firm serves about 2,700 tenants and oversees a portfolio of about 6 million square feet of office, retail, industrial, residential, mixed-use, receiverships and special-use facilities throughout Wisconsin.<\/p>\n
In July 2011, Commercial Property Executive<\/em> reported that Pittsburgh Commercial Real Estate Inc. had joined Colliers, giving the international firm a stronger foothold in western Pennsylvania.
