The 90,000-square-foot, 656-foot-tall property was designed by Kevin Kennon Architects and will serve as an office tower and luxury shopping center when completed in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Known as the Tian Fang Tower, the building is projected to generate as much as 20 percent of its clean energy with the help of a combination of fuel cells, solar panels and wind turbines. As compared to a similar fully occupied mixed-use building, the tower is expected to rely only 60 percent on the grid. It is being billed as one of China\u2019s most advanced sustainable commercial buildings. <\/p>\n<p>According to Kevin Kennon Architects president &amp; design principal Kevin Kennon, the goal of the project is to act as a catalyst for green design in China. Its design strategies include green space and natural light via approximately 50 atriums, along with natural convection climate control methods. Additionally, the building\u2019s angled roofs have different orientations to the sun to provide solar power.<\/p>\n<p>The tower is based on a 46-square-foot module and features more corners than the average office building, providing prime real estate in corner offices. Restaurants and retail will be housed on the first floor.<\/p>\n<p>Tianjin Eco-City is a 30-square-kilometer development designed to display and promote the newest green technologies and to serve as a model for developing Chinese cities.
