URS Corp. has won a major new task order under a previously awarded contract to provide engineering and construction services at bases worldwide for the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence, under the Heavy Engineering, Repair and Construction contract. Under the terms of this particular task order, URS will design and build two medical instructional facilities at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. The task order has a maximum value of $99.9 million, including about $89.9 million in a base bid plus $10 million in options, over a two year period. The Fort Sam Houston facility will be used for training military personnel from all branches of the service in radiology, pharmacy, biomedical equipment and nuclear medicine technology. Other projects have also been award recently at Fort Sam Houston as part of a $2 billion expansion of the base. This week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $33.4 million contract to Houston-based Satterfield & Pontikes Construction Inc. for the construction of a primary health-care clinic at the fort, which will eventually take on the outpatient care services currently provided at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston. San Francisco-based URS is no stranger to working under contract with the government on development and property management projects. Late last month, the engineering and construction giant became one of six companies awarded indefinite delivery\/indefinite quantity contracts by the U.S. Navy, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest, to perform remedial actions at environmentally contaminated sites. Going forward, URS will compete for task orders under that contact with the other five companies. URS was also selected recently by the Tulsa Airport Authority to provide program and construction management for its terminal and concourse renovation. In addition to the renovation of the two terminal concourses, URS will be responsible for managing the installation of the in-bound baggage system, among other jobs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
