The 350-acre Southern California Logistics Centre, in Victorville in California\u2019s High Desert, is going green. All future development at the project, which could eventually total 60 million square feet of warehouse\/distribution space, will be LEED certified, a spokesperson for Stirling Capital Investments, the project\u2019s developer, told CPN. \u00a0The buildings that have already been completed in the development\u2019s first phase, the Global Access Business Centre (two Class A multi-tenant industrial buildings totaling 223,700 square feet) and a 407,600-square-foot bulk distribution facility under a 10-year lease to Newell Rubbermaid, are not LEED certified. Phase one will eventually total 6.5 million square feet. \u00a0Going forward, however, the development will be green, including a 296,000-square-foot Class A distribution building scheduled for completion next month and a 1 million-square-foot Class A industrial facility slated for completion in December. These properties are targeted for a Silver LEED rating. \u00a0The logistics center will incorporate a variety of sustainable features, including water-efficient, drought-tolerant landscaping and storm water handling; site development to maximize open space and protect and restore habitat; indoor environmental improvements such as the use of low-emitting materials, increased ventilation, increased skylights and daylight views; and energy and atmosphere strategies such as green power and onsite renewable energy. The project, built on part of the former site of George Air Force Base, will also reuse existing building materials from the base, including asphalt and concrete. \u00a0Stirling Capital Investments is a joint venture between Stirling Enterprises and DCT Industrial Trust Inc. Stirling\u2019s partners Dougall Agan and Chris Downey, have been responsible for more than $3 billion in large-scale land development projects in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and San Diego counties. DCT owns, operates and develops bulk-distribution and light-industrial properties in high-volume distribution markets in the United States and Mexico. \u00a0The logistics center is one component of Southern California Logistics, an 8,500-acre freight hub supported by air, ground and rail connections. Other components are the Southern California Logistics Airport, a 2,500-acre air cargo and aviation facility, and the Southern California Rail Complex, a planned 3,500-acre intermodal complex.
