InterContinental Hotels Group said its new 386-room, 31-story Crowne Plaza hotel, set to open in 2010 in Las Vegas, will have an Asian theme. The hotel will include a casino, three restaurants, three lounges, a full-service spa and swimming pool, as well as a fitness center, business center and retail. The hotel will also feature 16,000 square feet of meeting and banquet room space. The hotel is owned and managed by Andrew Lai, under a license agreement with a company in the InterContinental Hotels Group. The hotel, located in central Las Vegas, will have an Asian-themed interior and exterior, due to its location at the entrance to Las Vegas\u2019 Chinatown. The hotel\u2019s location has additional attractions, given its location near the Wynn and Treasure Island hotels, said Mike Higgins, regional vice president for Intercontinental. \u00a0Las Vegas did have a Crowne Plaza, but the hotel\u2019s licensing agreement with Intercontinental expired earlier this decade. With Crowne Plaza hotels geared to cater to the meetings and conventions business, having a Las Vegas location was important to the brand, said Gina LaBarre, vice president of brand management for Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts. \u201cWe\u2019re going to look for future development opportunities there as well,\u201d LaBarre said. Possible opportunities may exist as the south end of The Strip is developed, Higgins said, as well as Downtown and in the planned community of Summerlin, Higgins said. \u00a0Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts has nearly 293 hotels around the world. It has a global construction pipeline of 98 hotels, encompassing 29,239 rooms.
