Packaging giant Berry Plastics Corp. has expanded its lease at a site in the western Chicago suburb of Aurora, Ill., to accommodate additional operations. The plastics maker inked a lease for 233,000 square feet at 999 Bilter Road near I-88, also known as the East-West Corridor. Evansville, Ind.-based Berry Plastics had previous used 147,000 square feet of space at the site for warehousing. The unusual part of the deal is that, going forward, the company will be using the additional space for manufacturing. \u201cSite selection for a manufacturing facility is quite complicated, since it has to take into account the needs of a company\u2019s clients, as well as supply chain issues and other considerations,\u201d Jeffrey Gittelman, senior vice president with Staubach Co., who represented Berry Plastics in the transaction, told CPN this morning. Staubach vice president Dan McGillicuddy and managing principal Kristian Bjorson also represented Berry Plastics, while Dan Cawley of Cawley Commercial represented the landlord, Liberty Trust. \u201cThe company has another manufacturing facility in Aurora, but there was no room for expansion at that site,\u201d Gittelman continued. \u201cUltimately, Berry decided that an expansion at Bilter made the most sense.\u201d Berry Plastics, with annual sales of more than $3 billion, is one of the largest plastic packaging producers in the world. Beside this lease, the company has been busy in the real estate realm lately, including a number of sale-leaseback transactions that CPN reported on earlier this week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
