Commercial offices continue to dominate the stock of LEED-certified green buildings, comprising more than 835 million square feet of space–head and shoulders above other space types. Of the nearly 11,000 LEED-certified projects, 43 percent are offices. This year alone, more than 50 percent of the registered square feet belong to office spaces.
California has the most LEED-certified commercial offices, mirroring trends from 2010, with 690 offices that have achieved one of the four levels of certification–Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum. Taking on many shapes and sizes, from legal offices to dental clinics, these savvy office owners and managers know that the new Class A office space is green and are benefiting from all the advantages that green buildings have to offer.
The business case for green building is clear for tenants: Green buildings are designed to be healthier buildings, and the healthier the building, the healthier the employees.
