Schupp Cos. Constructs World’s Only LEED Gold Hyatt Place
Greater D.C. is getting a new hotel. The Schupp Cos. broke ground last week on a new Hyatt Place hotel. According to the developer, not only will it be the first LEED Gold hotel in the Arlington area, it will also be the only LEED Gold Hyatt Place in the world.

Greater D.C.’s newest hotel is a property of distinction: The new Hyatt Place will not only be the first LEED Gold hotel in the Arlington area, it will be the only LEED Gold Hyatt Place in the world, according to developer The Schupp Cos.
Schupp broke ground last week on the property at 2401 Wilson Blvd., just two blocks from Arlington’s Courthouse Metro Station. Schupp purchased the 19,000-square-foot site in 2007, maintaining it as a retail center during the planning, designing and rezoning phases.
The $50 million project received approval from Arlington County last spring. Schupp started demolition work on Dec. 29, and on Jan. 30 it held the official groundbreaking. The project will replace the single-level retail center with an eight-story, metal-and-glass Hyatt Place hotel with 161 rooms, a bar and a restaurant.
Vienna-based Schupp will also build four single-family homes as part of the development on an adjacent residential site. The homes will act as a buffer between the hotel and Lyon Village, a nearby residential neighborhood.
Hitt Contracting is the general contractor for the new hotel. The project will be primarily funded by EagleBank. Schupp expects to finish it in the first half of 2016.
