Trump International Hotel in D.C. to Open September 2016

Washington, D.C.—Trump Hotel Collection recently announced that the Trump International Hotel, Washington, D.C., former home of The Old Post Office Pavilion, will open this September, which the company claims is two years ahead of schedule.

However, the opening seems to have always been slated to open in late 2016, conveniently ahead of the January 2017 presidential inauguration. The Trump Organization’s contract with the General Services Administration, the administer of the historic postal service building, required the hotel to open by 2018, according to the Washington Business Journal.

At the beginning of 2012, the GSA named Trump Hotel Collection as the redeveloper of the historic building, which was completed in 1899 and served as D.C.’s main post office until 1914. Two years ago, the property, sitting at 1100 Pennsylvania Ave., was leased for 140 years to The Trump Organization LLC. In July 2014, Trump broke ground on the $200 million redevelopment.

The luxurious 263-key hotel, conveniently located less than one mile from the White House, will feature lusciously furnished guestrooms and suites, 14-foot-wide carpeted corridors, crystal sconces, chandeliers, and the original solid wood doors. There will be 35 suites, with the Presidential ones boasting 2,500, 3,500, and 6,300 square feet, the latter set to become the largest in the city.

The D.C. Trump International will offer 38,000 square feet of luxurious meeting and event space, including the 13,200-square-foot Presidential Ballroom. Guests will have access to 24-hour services including concierge, valet parking and in-room dining. The facilities will include a fitness center and spa, fine dining options at the BLT Prime restaurant, and the Trump Pets, Trump Kids and Trump Attaché signature programs.

“This is my fifth hotel opening and I can say with conviction that I have never seen so much interest and so many early bookings as I have at Trump D.C.; we already have a significant number of events confirmed for 2016 and beyond with many more inquiries being considered,” said Mickael Damelincourt, managing director of the Trump D.C. hotel, in prepared remarks.

Launched in 2007, Trump Hotels is a top-tier luxurious collection with a portfolio including signature establishments in New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, Honolulu, Panama City, Toronto, Miami, and Doonbeg, Ireland. Alongside the D.C. location, the Trump pipeline for 2016 also includes hotels in Rio de Janeiro and Vancouver.
