Thor Equities Inks Lease at Historic Manhattan Building
The former Engineering Societies’ Building used to be home to a 1,000-seat auditorium and one of the largest engineering libraries of the world.

Thor Equities has signed a 13,400-square-foot lease with The Squash Center at one of its office buildings in Manhattan. By early 2019, the private club will occupy the asset’s entire fifth floor.
The property located at 25 W. 39th St. was formerly known as the Engineering Societies’ Building. Completed in 1907 with a $1.5 million gift from millionaire industrialist Andrew Carnegie, the tower featured a 1,000-seat auditorium and one of the world’s largest engineering libraries at the time.
Following the Engineering Societies’ relocation in 1961, the 15-story, 208,000-square-foot building was converted into office space with expansive column spacing and 20-foot slab-to-slab ceiling heights. Other tenants include Spark Labs, Halston, Movado, Seven for all Mankind, VF Jeanswear and Thor Equities.
Avison Young’s Arthur Mirante, John Ryan and Patrick Steffens partnered with Thor Equities’ Jonathan Scheinberg to represent the landlord. JLL’s Ellen Herman and Allison Buck acted on behalf of the tenant.
