The Hub Breaks Ground at Waverly in South Charlotte

Charlotte—Locally based commercial developers Childress Klein and Crosland Southeast and the Matthews family have begun construction on The Hub, a six-story, 154,000-square-foot office building in south Charlotte.

The project is the first of two corporate office buildings planned at Waverly, a mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly community currently under development on a 90-acre lot at the intersection of Providence and Ardrey Kell Roads.

Designed by RJT+R, The Hub aims to achieve LEED certification. General contractor Shelco LLC expects to complete construction in May 2017. The structure will have an architectural precast and brick façade with high-performance glass. Other features include exposed ceilings, upscale modern lobbies and restrooms, a four-level 840-space parking garage, as well as flexible floor plans.

We have carefully planned this project to ensure it provides the activity, walkability and vibrancy of Uptown while remaining close to employees’ homes.”

At full build-out, Waverly will contain 250,000 square feet of retail space anchored by Whole Foods Market; 300,000 square feet of office space across two buildings; 60,000 square feet of medical office space anchored by Novant Health; and a 141-key Hilton Garden Inn.

The development will also be home to Solis Waverly, a 375-unit upscale apartment community built by Terwilliger Pappas Multifamily Partners. David Weekley Homes is building approximately 150 single-family homes and townhouses. While components of the project are already open, the project is anticipated to celebrate a grand opening in spring 2017.
