The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU) has chosen Ramboll to coordinate the development of the State’s Offshore Wind Strategic Plan, issued under Governor Murphy’s Executive Order Number 8. The order set the most ambitious goal in the U.S., of 3,500 megawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2030.

Ramboll will lead a team that includes Stantec Consulting Services Inc., Rutgers Energy Institute Wind Group, BVG Associates LLC, the Business Network for Offshore Wind, InGroup Inc. and Endeavor Fisheries.

“Ramboll has been leading the industry since it began in Denmark in 1986 and developed across Europe and into the U.S. Many lessons have been learned from Europe that can be applied to the U.S. market, but only with a strong understanding of the local environment, and the energy generation and usage markets,” said in prepared remarks Allan DeLorme, president of Ramboll’s environment & health business.

Dream team

Ramboll, a global engineering, design and consulting firm headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, has a long history in wind energy—the firm designed nearly two-thirds of the offshore wind turbine foundations and many of the platforms operating across the world today. Stantec has extensive experience in the offshore ecological conditions of continental shelf areas and how they interact with offshore wind infrastructure.

Rutgers Energy Institute Wind Group integrates Rutgers University’s experience in science, engineering, economics and policy. U.K.-based BVG Associates is acting as lead strategic advisor to the industry as has developed facilities in Europe and the U.S.

The Business Network for Offshore Wind has brought together domestic and international businesses and governments to educate and prepare U.S. businesses in entering the offshore wind industry and establish the supply chain market. InGroup has a successful track record of providing public outreach and agency coordination for projects requiring broad and diverse stakeholder involvement in New Jersey. Endeavor conducts marine and fisheries research efforts and has provided a variety of services to the offshore wind industry.
