Orgill Inc. is set to build its first distribution center in the Northeast in the upstate New York town of Rome. The company plans to invest $68 million in a brand-new, 780,000-square-foot facility in the Mohawk Valley. The property will also have the potential to expand to 1 million square feet.

The industrial project will receive $3.5 million in tax credits through the Excelsior Jobs Program conducted by Empire State Development, an umbrella organization for New York State’s economic development financing entities. The credits are tied to the creation of 225 jobs and the purchase of equipment and machinery for the property.

Orgill’s facility will be built at Griffiss Business and Technology Park, located at 584 Phoenix Drive. The 3,500-acre business park is home to a variety of public and private enterprise, including the Air Force Research Laboratory, Centrex Clinical Labs, Lockheed Martin and Griffiss International Airport, as well as hotels including Hampton Inn Rome and Wingate by Wyndham.

Orgill provides distribution services to more than 6,000 retail stores across the U.S., Canada and more than 50 countries around the world that sell hardware, lumber, farm and home improvement items. The new facility, which Orgill plans to begin operating by early 2022, will be the company’s eighth full-service distribution center, adding to its current locations in Georgia, West Virginia, Missouri, Utah, Texas, Idaho and Ontario.

In January, Governor Cuomo announced a Green New Deal, an aggressive initiative to transition the state into clean energy. The plan included $1.5 billion in competitive awards to support 20 large-scale solar, wind and energy storage projects across upstate New York.
