Washington, D.C.—Regency Centers Corp., a national owner, operator and developer of grocery-anchored shopping centers, has announced a new ground-up development in Chantilly, Va. The company is investing approximately $44.5 million in The Field at Commonwealth, an 180,000-square-foot shopping mall anchored by a 120,000-square-foot Wegmans Food Market. The center is slated to come online in 2018.

The property is strategically located in a Class A office market, at the intersection of US-28 and Westfields Boulevard. In addition, the retail center is close to Dulles Airport and key governmental employers, being situated within the D.C. metro area.

“The Field at Commonwealth is going to transform the Chantilly and Westfields area into a vibrant retail corridor in Northern Virginia. The importance of bringing the dominant gourmet grocer in the Washington, D.C., market to the project cannot be overstated. The unrivaled product offering and shopping experience that Wegmans is known for will serve the surrounding community well,” Devin Corini, VP of investments for Regency Centers, said in a prepared statement.
