Lifescapes Completes Design for $1.1B Resort in South Korea

Lifescapes International completed the landscape design for Paradise City, a $1.1 billion fully integrated entertainment and gaming resort complex in Incheon, South Korea.

“As Northeast Asia’s first ‘art-tainment’ integrated resort, Paradise City offers an unparalleled guest experience,” said Julie Brinkerhoff-Jacobs, president of Lifescapes International, in prepared remarks. “This mega-resort combines a diverse range of hospitality, gaming, art, and retail amenities, allowing guests to experience luxury, beauty, and entertainment like no other in Northeast Asia.”

A joint venture between Paradise Group and Sega Sammy Holdings Inc., the 83-acre development comprises 12 facilities, including a 711-key luxury hotel, a family wing and pool villas, a casino, a K-style-themed convention center, an art gallery, retail shops, a spa and restaurants. 

Paradise City is located in the International Business Center of Incheon International Airport and is 90 minutes from Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo, and 40 minutes from Seoul.

The Design

Lifescapes started its design by infusing landscaping through the main resort-style pool, which also features an outdoor bar and private cabanas. Taking inspiration from its work in Vegas, the company created a large main entry, wedding gardens, private villas and gardens that flow from the exterior inward.

Interior gardens and outdoor accent plantings with a variety of color and texture add a brightened element to the space, including the use of a variety of indigenous trees and plants native to South Korea like the Hornbeam Bonsai, Weeping Willow, Cherry Blossoms, Konara Oak Trees, Sawleaf Zelkova and Loropetalum.

“At Paradise City, our design concept was to harmonize Eastern and Western cultural elements, while infusing the vibrant energy of Las Vegas throughout the resort,” Brinkerhoff-Jacobs told Commercial Property Executive. “By integrating landscaping that blends a variety of indigenous trees and plants native to South Korea, alongside Italian villa elements and Mediterranean motifs, we successfully delivered on this concept, ultimately creating a refreshing contemporary interpretation of ‘paradise on earth.’”

Earlier this year, Lifescapes completed the design of another international mixed-use project, Robinsons Galleria in Cebu, Philippines.
