Equinix’s Ashburn, Va., campus grows with DC12, a new $98.5 million International Business Exchange data center. The company’s Northern Virginia-Washington, D.C. presence now amounts to 14 IBX facilities, with 750,000 square feet of total colocation space, over 30 megawatts capacity and connections to 200 network providers. Globally, it owns more than 175 such facilities. A recent, 29-asset portfolio acquisition valued at $3.6 billion, grew Equinix’s international footprint to approximately 17 million square feet.

DC12 is located at 44790 Performance Circle in Ashburn, Va., across the street from DC10 and seven miles from Dulles International Airport. In its first phase, it will add 1,500 cabinets and approximately 57,800 square feet of data center space, as well as campus cross-connectivity. At full build, the facility will have approximately 3,000 cabinets. It will also use an indirect evaporative cooling system to reduce water use. Equinix stated that it will pursue LEED Gold certification for the new center.

“The Equinix Ashburn campus features one of the highest densities of networks and cloud providers within our global platform of IBX data centers. Interconnection opportunities for enterprises and government agencies across the Washington, D.C. metro are immense and will enable customers to accelerate their digital transformation,” said Karl Strohmeyer, president of Equinix Americas, in a prepared statement.
