Aligned Energy has started construction work on a 200,000-square-foot expansion of its existing Phoenix colocation facility. The company stated that a strong client demand in the area is the reason for adding another 60 megawatts to its data center.

Located at 2500 W. Union Hills, the 120-megawatt facility sits in a 55-acre campus, enclosed within a steel fence and brandishing a five-layer secure entrance. The second phase of the facility will increase colocation space and will be designed to Tier III standards, which translates to a maximum of one hour and a half of annual downtime and N+1 fault tolerant power outage protection of up to 72 hours.

Future-proof infrastructure

Aligned Energy’s data center guarantees a power usage efficiency of 1.15, with multiple substations nearby. Several UPS blocks of 2.25 megawatts are concurrently maintained, while N+4 power is achieved through four-engine blocks of N+1 generators. Rack densities are offered up to 50 kW, enabling tenants to deploy legacy systems coupled with computational applications without losing latency. The facility is carrier-neutral, with providers such as CenturyLink, Zayo, Level(3), Cox, SRP and Cyberverse.

“Forward-looking businesses today require a data center provider that offers advanced, future-proofing infrastructure solutions that keep pace with the demands of the client’s ever evolving requirements on density and scalability,” said Aligned Energy CEO Andrew Schaap, in a prepared statement.

Phoenix is one of the top data center markets in the world. The Arizona Commerce Authority implements an incentive program for companies providing colocation services, in the form of a 20-year sales tax exemption. Additionally, Phoenix’s Internet speed is among the country’s fastest, according to the Ookla Net Index.
