Denver-based real estate investor and developer McWHINNEY has announced a new addition to Austin’s skyline. Next month, the firm will break ground on a new 31-story full-service lifestyle hotel, which upon completion will be managed by Hyatt.

Dubbed Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin, the facility is slated to open in fall 2021 and will total 246 guestrooms, including a nearly 1,400-square-foot presidential suite. The property will be located on the corner of Congress Avenue and Eighth Street, adjacent to Austin’s Paramount and State theatres and a short walk from the Texas State Capitol, the Austin Convention Center and the University of Texas at Austin campus.

The development team is made of Austin-based architect Nelsen Partners, designer Duncan Miller Ullmann of Dallas and California-based general contractor Katerra. The project will meet the Austin Energy Green Building Standards and the hotel’s accommodations will include a ground-floor restaurant and bar, a second-floor bar and private event space, an eighth-floor outdoor lounge and bar, a 24-hour fitness center with cardio and weightlifting equipment, nearly 2,000 square feet of flexible and high-tech meeting/function space.
