IKEA chose Linkous Construction Co. to serve as Construction Manager for the company’s newest development in Norfolk, Va. Ground breaking is scheduled later this fall and the official store opening is expected in spring 2019.

Located within the Hampton Roads area, the proposed 338,000-square-foot IKEA Norfolk will feature 10,000 items, 50 room-settings, 935 parking spaces, three model home interiors, a children’s play area and 450-seat restaurant. More than 500 jobs are expected to be filled during the construction phase, with another 250 coworkers joining the company upon the store’s completion. The building will be constructed on a 19-acre site at the northwest corner of Interstate 64 and Northampton Boulevard.

IKEA in Virginia

This project will represent the third investment by IKEA in Virginia. Besides this proposed Norfolk store and a store in Woodbridge, there also is an IKEA furniture factory in Danville that opened in 2008. In May, the company also began the process of opening a proposed 341,000-square-foot IKEA in Nashville, Tenn.

“With contractors onboard, plans can proceed towards opening the future IKEA Norfolk,” said Lars Petersson, IKEA U.S. president, in prepared remarks. “This store will provide a more convenient IKEA shopping experience for current and potential Hampton Roads customers, complementing our growing southeastern U.S. presence.”
