Hilton Worldwide is building not one, not two, but three new hotels in Canada, and all at the same location. The global hospitality company just entered into an agreement to develop Calgary Airport Hotel Village, a 518-room lodging complex carrying the Hampton Hotels, Hilton Hotels & Resorts and Homewood Suites by Hilton flags.

Prestige Hospitality is the owner of the project located at 2021 100 Avenue N.E., and Aman Building Corp. is on board to serve as the general contractor. While the three separate hotels will feature their usual distinct brand offerings, they will also provide guests the opportunity to share certain benefits between the properties. The 135-room Hampton will be linked to the 252-room Hilton by a 14,000-square-foot conference center, and connected to the 122-room Homewood via a shared pool and fitness center. All three 10-story hotels, designed by Chamberlain Architect Services Ltd., will be united by exterior parkways, as well as an underground parking facility.

Work is already underway on the Village, with ground having broken on both Homewood and Hampton. The two hotels will open during the fourth quarter of 2013. Construction of the Hilton is on schedule to commence in the second quarter of next year and reach completion in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Homewood, Hampton and Hilton all have a strong presence in Canada, but it appears the time may be right for an expansion. The hotel occupancy rate in the country has been on a consistent upswing over the last few years, going from 58 percent in 2009 to an anticipated 62 percent in 2012, according to a recently released forecast by PKF Consulting Inc. Other companies are on the expansion bandwagon. In June, Wyndham Hotel Group announced the opening of the 152-room Wyndham Garden Fallsview Niagara Falls in Ontario. In May, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. swung open the doors of the 131-room Aloft Vaughan Mills in suburban Toronto. Completion of the property marked the second Aloft in Canada, which Stamford, Conn.-based Starwood chose as the location for the debut of the Aloft-brand hotel with the opening of Aloft Montreal Airport in 2008.

Much more activity is on tap for Canada. According to a STR/McGraw Hill Construction report, as of the end of June, the country’s hotel development pipeline consisted of 196 projects accounting for an aggregate 20,506 rooms.
