HDR Opens New LA Studio

The architectural, engineering and consulting firm leased more than 25,000 square feet of office space in downtown Los Angeles. The company selected Usman Tariq to lead the new location.

After opening its San Marcos, Texas, engineering office last September, HDR leased 28,000 square feet of office space at Two California Plaza in downtown Los Angeles for its new branch. Tthe company selected Usman Tariq, managing principal, to lead the new studio.

Located at 350 S. Grand Ave., the 1.4 million-square-foot tower sits next to a variety of restaurants, hotels and shopping options, including Pez Cantina, Millennium Biltmore Hotel and Omni Los Angeles Hotel. The 52-story LEED-certified building also offers convenient access to interstates 10 and 110. Tenants include Deloitte, City National Bank and Mayer Brown. Two California Plaza features 44,000 square feet of retail space and more than 1,350 parking spaces.

Most recently, Tariq, who joined HDR eight years ago, served as associate managing principal in the firm’s Washington, D.C., studio. Prior to this, he was an associate at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Tariq has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University and a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering from University of Maryland College Park.
